Cursor IDE

July 22, 2026 at 6:05 PM UTC

Patch release (build 20260722-180504Z-4af8a08354e2): Auto mode is now powered by Cursor Router, with optimization modes and admin controls.

Changelog

  • [new] Cursor Router powers Auto mode — it analyzes each request and routes it to the right model (frontier models when needed, price-efficient models otherwise).
  • [new] Optimization modes when Auto is selected: Intelligence (frontier quality), Balance (strong daily-driver quality), and Cost (good quality while optimizing token spend). Balance and Intelligence bill at the routed model’s rate.
  • [new] Admin controls: enable the router per team or group, restrict which optimization modes members can use, set the default mode, and allow or block underlying models.
  • [new] Per-request classification by task type and complexity.
  • [new] Routed model can be displayed or hidden (hidden by default).
  • [new] Soft and hard enforcement options for standardizing on Auto.
  • [new] Grok 4.5 is required as a price-efficient routing option.
  • [changed] Cursor Router is available across desktop, web, iOS, CLI, and the SDK; on by default for Teams plans; Enterprise admins can enable it from the dashboard.

Availability

Shipped for desktop in this build. Router support is also called out for web, iOS, CLI, and the SDK. Teams plans get it on by default; Enterprise enables from the dashboard.
