• [new] Opt-in file acceleration (features.file_acceleration / GROK_FILE_ACCELERATION) can hand a local session’s filesystem to a file accelerator when this build includes one. file_acceleration.routes (GROK_FILE_ACCELERATION_ROUTES) is passed through unparsed as a route override; both default off / empty.
• [changed] Custom [endpoints] / [model.*] auth is explicit: the startup model-list fetch uses XAI_API_KEY (Authorization: Bearer) and never a grok login session. With an auth_provider_command and no XAI_API_KEY, that fetch sends the provider token instead; if neither is available, it fails and asks you to set the key. Each model’s api_key / env_key authenticates inference to that host. [model.*] still inherits base_url from [endpoints].
• [changed] Memory-v2 batch Dream (memory_v2.batch_dream_enabled and the per-batch time, call, and note-size caps) takes a local value over remote, then the previous defaults (off / the existing numeric caps). Remote can therefore enable batch Dream unless you pin it locally. memory_v2.compact_index_enabled is documented the same way.
• [changed] /learn unused-surface reports group zero-use skills that share a kind and disposition into one action. A referenced unused skill is never a delete; it joins that kind’s ask group with its referrers instead of getting its own row.
• [changed] The build-with-ai skill no longer hardcodes a default model or SDK snippets. Before writing integration code it fetches docs.x.ai, copies the current model id, install command, and first-request sample, and prefers the xAI SDK named there (or the OpenAI SDK already in the project) against https://api.x.ai/v1.

Upgrade notes

• If you use models_base_url or other custom endpoints, set XAI_API_KEY for the model-list fetch (or rely on auth_provider_command when the key is unset). Per-model api_key / env_key still authenticate inference; a missing key is now an error instead of falling back to a grok.com session.
• If you depended on batch Dream being impossible to turn on remotely, set memory_v2.batch_dream_enabled locally to keep it off.
